IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne C.
Zimmermann
August 16, 1946 – August 2, 2023
Wayne C. Zimmermann, age 76, of Elkhorn, WI, died on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Son of the late Elroy and Betty (Luetzow) Zimmermann, Wayne was born on August 16, 1946. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army and served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1972. After his time in the service, Wayne began working for Nestle Chocolate Factory. He worked his way up through several different positions over his 35 years with the company, retiring in 2004 as a lab technician. Following retirement, Wayne began delivering the Walworth County Shopper newspaper. He enjoyed the opportunity to meet and talk to new people while delivering papers. Wayne's favorite job during his life was the 50 years he devoted to working different aspects of the Walworth County Fair. He looked forward to it every year and was well loved by many people involved with the fair. Wayne was a member of Sugar Creek Lutheran Church.
In his free time, Wayne enjoyed playing poker, watching old TV shows and western films, and working outdoors and on his tractor to maintain his pristine yard. He was an avid and lively Green Bay Packers fan who could often be found yelling at the TV. Wayne liked to visit lighthouses and take trips with the grandkids to Disney. He collected lighthouse decor, Disney memorabilia, and cookie jars. He also excelled at woodworking and carpentry, having made picnic tables for everyone in the family. His daughters remarked that if ever there was a dance and Dad was around, he would make you join him in Polka, which he was very good at!
Wayne was a strong-willed, determined, and hard-working man who took his responsibilities very seriously. More importantly, he will be remembered as a kind and loving man whose greatest joy in life came from his family.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Zimmermann; daughters, Vicki (Derrick) Bird and Tracy Krueger; step-children, Lori Lopez, Lissa (Mario) Ramirez, and David Easter; granddaughter, Ashlee Glowacki; great-grandsons, Evan and Aiden Glowacki; as well as 8 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy and Betty Zimmermann; sister, Carol Olsen; and former wife, Kathy (Krueger) Zimmermann.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 11:00AM at Sugar Creek Lutheran Church, N5690 Cobblestone Rd., Elkhorn, WI. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of the service. Burial with military honors to follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery.
