Elkhorn: William L. McVeigh, 89, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, WI of a broken heart for his wife Mary of 66 years.  William was united in marriage to Mary Jean Wagner on August 27, 1949 in East Troy, WI.  She preceded him in death by six days; she died in her sleep on December 22, 2015 at their home in Elkhorn.  He was born on July 20, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late John and Anna (O'Bryan) McVeigh.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a leader in the Boy Scouts.  William enjoyed playing the trombone, woodworking, reading, watching western movies, fishing and camping.  He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. William was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family.

William is survived by his eight children: Michael (Teri) McVeigh of VA, Mary Beth (Michael) Lamping of Greenfield, WI, Ret. Chief Petty Officer US Navy W. Patrick (Nina) McVeigh of Stevens Point, WI, Colleen (Lawrence) James of Wauwatosa, WI, Karen (Richard) Boran of Chicago, IL, Ret. Tech Sergeant US Air Force Dennis (Fran) McVeigh of ND, Kevin (Tammy) McVeigh of Manitowoc, WI and Ret. Colonel US Army Bryan (Julie) McVeigh of MI, 24 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two brothers -- Robert (Mary Ellen) McVeigh of Chicago, IL and James (Joan) McVeigh of Whitewater, WI.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, two sons, Stephan and David McVeigh, two sisters, Margaret Masi and Anna Maude Reek, and one brother, Jack McVeigh.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00AM on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhorn, WI, with Father William Burkett officiating.  Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:30AM at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 730 N. Wisconsin Street Elkhorn, WI.  Burial with military honors will follow services at White Oak Cemetery in Town of Lafayette, WI.   Online guest book at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
