William John Morrissey 95, Elkhorn WI, Williams Bay WI, Naples, FL died Saturday April 8, 2023 at Williams Bay Care Center. He was born December 4, 1927 in Elkhorn, WI. The son of the late Wm. Leonard and Bertha (Boehm) Morrissey. He graduated from Elkhorn High School with the Class of 1946. During his school years he was an exceptional athlete in football, basketball and baseball and he won the American Legion medal his senior year. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served in the occupation troops in Italy with the 88th Infantry Division. After a winter in the Italian mountains with the army he never had a desire to go camping again. On September 12, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Kexel in Elkhorn, WI. They were married for over 52 years when she died on April 5, 2006. Bill started his banking career as a bookkeeper in the First National Bank of Elkhorn and worked through the ranks until finally becoming president of the bank. From there he created a bank Holding Company called Independence Bank Group. Bill played semi pro football with the Delavan Red Devils, He was lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Elkhorn, 50-year member and past commander of the Elkhorn VFW Post # 6375, President of the Wisconsin Bankers Association, Board of Directors of Atwood Oceanics for over 40 years, Member of the National Appraisal Foundation, Graduate of the Wisconsin Bankers School, he was an avid golfer and loved Hawaii. Bill is survived by his 2 children: Mary Ann (Peter Stathas) Morrissey of Shorewood, WI and Bill (Jackie) Morrissey of Walworth, WI, 6 grandchildren: Benjamin (Vaidehi) Morgan, Dennis (Kelly) Morgan, Katherine (Nick Pollack) Packer, Kate (Mark O'Harold) Morrissey, Pat (Lacey Golonka) Morrissey and Haley (Sam) Paulay, 3 great grandchildren: Rory, Karuna and Lila and by other relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his sister Janet Atwood and his brother Robert L. Morrissey. Visitation will be 10:00 am until time of funeral mass at 11:00 am Friday April 14, 2023 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church 107 W. Walworth Street Elkhorn, WI. Burial with full military rites will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Elkhorn, WI. Memorials may be made in Bill's name to: American Red Cross. On-line guestbook is at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
