Barbara Ann (Spath) Fischer

Barbara Ann Fischer; 67 of Elkhorn, WI, passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2022 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born August 21, 1955, to parents James and Ann Spath, Barb graduated from Elkhorn Area High School in 1973 and married Arthur Fischer in 1976. She served her community as Clerk-Treasurer of the Town of LaFayette for over 27 years, retiring in October of 2022. She will be missed more than words can describe by her husband, Art; her three children: Tracy, Travis, and Treena; her brother Doug Spath and his wife, Kathy Hogan; and countless other relatives and friends. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donna, and her brother Orville. Barb had an uncanny way of helping those around her appreciate the beauty and joy of life’s simple pleasures. Diving into a good book. Nuzzling her purring kitty. Sitting by the lake on a sunny day with her daughter. Receiving a bear hug from her son. She often took the ordinary and transformed it into the extraordinary, turning scraps of fabric into adorable Halloween costumes or run-of-the-mill sugar and flour into world-class cookies – never passing up the opportunity to sing a Christmas carol along the way.  Barb was always passionate about the value of lifelong education. As a proud mother of three and a valued member of Elkhorn’s School Board for over a decade, she was able to share her passion for learning with thousands of teachers, students, and faculty members.  As a respected Elkhorn “town elder” (as her son likes to say), Barb touched more lives and hearts than we could possibly begin to count. Her spirit was felt throughout the community in every fundraiser she organized, every election she ran, every book she donated, and in every friendly conversation she shared around town. She brought out the best in people and was looking forward to reading, traveling, and catching up on lunch dates with friends in retirement.  A celebration of Barb’s life will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:00PM  at Evergreen Golf Club.  Memorials may be made in Barb’s name to: Friends of Matheson Memorial Library: 101 N.
