Catherine "Katie" Schmalfeldt Obituary

Catherine Morine Schmalfeldt, age 90, of Lyons, WI, died at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Daughter of the late George and Catherine Hildur (Morine) Trimner, Katie was born on January 5, 1931, in Hinsdale, IL. Katie graduated from the University of Whitewater. She was united in marriage to Louis Schmalfeldt on November 10, 1956. The couple had four sons before Louis died on May 31, 1970, at which point Katie raised her boys as a single parent with the help of her Aunt Myrtle “Mertz” Cheski, all the while continuing to work on her farm which she loved to do. She built her own home by hand, raised animals, coached softball, led 4-H for 30 years, and was superintendent of the Poultry Barn at the Walworth County Fair for 25 years. She served as a supervisor on the Lyons Town Board.  In her free time, Katie loved all things outdoors—hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, and archery were among her favorite activities. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her lady friends at the Wellness Center, especially swimming and attending monthly luncheons. Her favorite place was her cabin in Cable, WI. Katie was a remarkable woman—independent, strong, and fun-loving. Her immense presence will surely be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Katie is survived by her children, Gregory (Margaret) Schmalfeldt, Jeffrey (Michelle) Schmalfeldt, Todd (Valinda) Schmalfeldt, and David (Tiffany Cramer) Schmalfeldt; grandchildren, Jacob (Elizabeth), Justin (Heather Ledbury), Jordan (Sarah Kaszuba), Makeil, Logan (Jessica Smith), Nolan, Nathan, Claudia, Carson, and Craig; great-grandchildren, Liam, Finley, and Hunter; and sister Pat Clark. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis; grandson, Joshua Schmalfeldt; brother Harold “Snook” (Pat) Trimner; sister Lois (Red) Durkee; brother-in-law Ray Clark; and nephews Scott Trimner and Steve Trimner.
