Donna M. Young, 89 of Elkhorn, WI, died Monday, October 11, 2021 at Golden Years in Lake Geneva, WI. She was born June 27, 1932 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter to the late Francis and Johanna “Jenny” (Breucker) Young. Donna graduated from UW-Madison with a Bachelors of Social Work then went onto graduate from UW-Milwaukee with a Masters of Social Work. She spent her entire career working for the State of Wisconsin in juvenile corrections helping shape lives of young boys that were offenders in the juvenile system. She loved all animals and had a particular passion for dogs. For 53 years, she bred, trained and exhibited Collies and West Highland White Terriers. Donna was a charter member of Waukesha Kennel Club and 40 + year member of the West Highland White Terrier Club of America. She served in various board capacities for both clubs and at one point was President of the West Highland WhiteTerrier Club of America. Donna also enjoyed travel, horseback riding in the Montana mountains, country western music, and was a voracious reader. She loved to attend the theater, particularly musicals in London, New York and Chicago. In later years, Donna spent a great deal of time walking her dogs in Kettle Moraine State Forrest and indulging in turtle sundaes.
Donna is survived by her three children; Cynthia Simonsen of Elkhorn, WI, Susan (Steve Needham) Mixdorf of Glendale, WI and William (Jane) Mixdorf of Plano, TX and her precious pet Westie, Barbie. Her children unequivocally acknowledge, and are grateful for, her strength of character, unconditional love, and unwavering support as a mother. She was preceded in death by her parents.
