Glenn L. Stewart, 88 of Elkhorn, WI, formerly of Davenport, IA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Mercy Walworth Hospital in Lake Geneva, WI. He was born July 8, 1935, in Jacksonville, IL, the son of the late Roy and Elizabeth (Andrews) Stewart. Glenn served in the United States Army, proudly playing football during his service. He married Shirley A. Valley on September 20, 1975. During Glenn and Shirley’s 48 years of marriage, they had countless adventures; traveling to all 50 states together. He retired after 32 years as a brick mason from Alcoa Corporation.
Glenn lived every day of his long life to the fullest. He was one with nature; always spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing and camping. He was an avid gardener his entire life; always sharing his crops with his community, whether it be the world’s greatest tomatoes or the many fruit flavors of his homemade wines.
He has always enjoyed playing and watching sports. He spent his life watching NASCAR, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cubs (thankfully getting to see them win the World Series!) He was always so proud to be cheering on his grandchildren at their own sporting events.
Glenn was truly one in a million and, quite literally, larger than life! He was a true teacher; always, sharing his limitless expertise with family, friends, neighbors, and sometimes even random strangers. He was known by many as the kindest and gentlest soul, and by others as the life of the party, always entertaining others with his inappropriate jokes. And, despite his kind and gentle demeanor; Glenn was a true badass. To those closest to him, he was all these things, and so much more. Put simply, he was the BEST.
He loved his family dearly and cherished the time he was able to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on within their hearts.
Glenn is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Stewart, their three daughters: Amy (Brenton) Hickman, Angie (Steve) Utsler, and Trish (Bryon) Crowley, seven grandchildren: Alex (Negeen), Maddison (Dalton), Max, Jack, Molly, Emily, and William, four great-grandchildren: Oaklee, Urban, Indie and Nour, five siblings: Bobby, Larry, Betty, Nancy and Julie, countless nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings: Kenneth, Leroy, Ronnie, Donnie, Walter, Dennis, Ethel, Neva, and Mary.
A life well lived is a life to be celebrated. A Celebration of Glenn’s Life will be held at the Izaak Walton League, 8440 N. Harrison St., Davenport, IA, Friday, November 10th from 5:00 – 9:00 pm.
