Joanne E. (Paddock) Mawhinney

Joanne E. Mawhinney, 85 of Elkhorn, WI, died Monday, May 11, 2020 at Ridgestone Gardens in Elkhorn, WI.  She was born January 6, 1935 in Elkhorn, WI, the daughter of the late Harley and Elizabeth “Betty” (Therkelsen) Paddock.  Joanne graduated from Elkhorn High School.  She was united in marriage to James R. Mawhinney on October 7, 1952 at Bethel United Methodist Church.  James died September of 1975.   Joanne was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Elkhorn, WI and the Sweet Adelines musical group.  She was very passionate about tending to her oriental garden and could always be found pulling weeds and watering her flowers.  When Joanne was not gardening, she was watching her birds from her large living room windows and checking to make sure the bird feeders were always full.  Joanne was also a news enthusiast and antique collector, which led to an impressive collection from around the world.  She loved to travel with her family to a variety of destinations such as Alaska, Sedona, AZ, Canada, Britain and her beloved Sanibel Island.  She was most at peace working in her garden and being at home with her family and her little dog Missy.  Joanne was a loving and devoted mother, sister and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family

.Joanne is survived by her three children; Lisa (Lee) Gottschalk of Elkhorn, WI, Jeff (Jamie) Mawhinney of Black Earth, WI, and James Mawhinney of Delavan, WI, four grandchildren; Michelle Gottschalk, Aaron Gottschalk, Michael Mawhinney and Ryan Mawhinney, sister-in-law, Lauri Paddock, niece, Amy (Travis) Henry and nephew, Matt (Megan) Paddock and her faithful dog Missy and by other realtives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James and her brother Myron “Mike” Paddock.

Family and dear friends are invited to meet at 11:30AM on Friday, May 15, 2020 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Homes, 730 N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI, to join the funeral procession of Joanne E. Mawhinney to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Tibbets for a graveside services by Rev. Jeanne Jones.  Family and friends are welcomed to have the option of watching the service within their car if needed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Joanne’s name to Donate Life Wisconsin, P.O. Box 1095 Madison, WI 53701.  Online guest book at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
