John was such a nice guy. Took me to my first concert with Jeff - Metallica and Ozzy - and I thought we were the coolest kids there hanging out with Mr. Leisen and his friends! My thoughts and prayers are with Jeff and Brett and all of John's family and friends. Rest in peace.

My condolences to John' s family on the loss of a great guy.
I first met John in the Air Force at basic training. After that time we all went our separate ways for training. About 15 years passed and while working at United Air Lines I saw John again. Like everyone at United said, John always had a smile on his face and something good to say about someone. He will really be missed.

Myself and my family have been most privileged to have know Bird for nearly 30 years. As we all know, he made each of us feel welcomed from that very first handshake. He engaged everyone with such sincerity & respect...and that grin - always - that grin! Our world was a better place with him and the memories we all share and cherish can never be taken from us. We are sorry to hear about John's passing. Dennis worked with him on the ramp and I meet him at O'hare. John never had a bad word to say about anyone. Always had a smile and a wave or a hand shake. Leisen family is in our prayers.

To The Leisen Family, Our Deepest Condolences on the Loss of Your BeLoved John, I worked with him at United on the ramp but mostly as a Food Runner in the narrow-body Kitchen in the mid 80's and when he went to the widebody, We would drive by with our Trucks and All You could see is John's Big Smile and Big Hand waving as we passed, It didn't matter if it was the 1st time or the 4th it was just the same. He always had Good Humor and it was OUR Pleasure to be his Co-worker. Later we would pass by when his shift started and mine ended at Airfreight. I will keep You in my Thoughts and Prayers and that John is smiling down from Heaven with our Lord and Savior !!God Bless You with His Love and Healing !!

the one thing i remember about john was the time i had just off the employee bus and there came john pulling out of the employee parking lot he was was on his bike, he had the forks extended. his hair was long and he had on a pancho and a do rag ( what a guy )

Just spoke with John a week or so ago, in Twin Lakes. Always smiling and had great stories of the city and his family. Our condolences to John's family, friends and all that knew him and was touched by his kindness and love.

To all of John's family, Our deepest condolences to the family, I was one of Johns leads when we worked at United, John was some one you really got to know for his personality was like glue, we sure had good times every time we worked together, we also at times would ride together in a car pool to work when he lived in Lake Zurich. We will miss him deeply as John was really a one of a kind and I enjoyed his humor and never had a bad word about him, may he rest in peace and I know John will say hello to my son Chris who passed in 2011, John knew Chris and they both had much in common. May you all know that he's now in good hands and will be missed by all.

Met Big Bird at the Fox River Inn back in the 80's. Until a week before his passing we would run into him EVERYWHERE... Always with that BIG SMILE and a HANDSHAKE. Used to send him Summerfest schedules cause he couldn't get them in ILL. And there he would be. A BETTER FRIEND you couldn't ask for. Our DEEPEST CONDOLENCES to Johns Family. R.I.P. BROTHER
