It is with mixed emotions that we announce the passing of father, husband, brother and friend,
Lawrence Ray Twist on November 7, 2023. Mixed because we are heartbroken to see him leave our
world but joyful because we know that he is walking the streets of heaven with our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ and our heavenly Father.
Born September 1, 1952 Larry was a lover of life, he loved living life to the fullest. He was a lover of all
things outdoors and not only was he an avid hunter and fisherman he was successful at both. It was
always fun listening to Larry’s stories because you quite often got 10 for 1. His brother Raymond Twist
experienced many of these adventures first hand and can add just as many side stories.
He was determined and strong and these traits made it possible for him to be the owner operator of
two successful businesses. He spent his youth and many adult years buying and selling used compact
tractors. If you bought a tractor from Larry you knew he had as he liked to say given it a good “fluff and
buff”.
After meeting his wife Patti Lorraine Twist he started a new endeavor The Rustic Realm Lodge Décor
Furniture Store with just a log bed and an antler chandelier in one room he and his wife grew the
business to 7 rooms filled with unique rustic furniture. And even though he enjoyed the furniture
business, he said the lady customers smelled better than some of the tractor buyers, he never got the
iron out of his blood and continued to dabble in used sport machines.
Larry took great pride in his son Lorne Twist and his accomplishments and he was thrilled when his
grandson Laine was added to the mix. When Lorne married Jill, Larry got two wonderful grand stepsons;
Dominique and Sebastian.
Larry’s marriage to Patti garnered him two beautiful stepdaughters Valarie Lou-Ann Fiske (Mike) and
Tara Rose Brennan (Dustin) who have between them 7 girls; Rebecca, Brooke, Elizabeth, Madalyn and
Olivia (Valarie) and Kyra and Madison (Tara).
His favorite colors were brown, brown and camo. He was a man who could in the early morning hours
navigate through pitch black woods to get to his tree stand but required a night light at bedtime.
He enjoyed getting his girls to Easter sunrise service and then taking them for a drive in the country
dressed in their Easter finery, including bonnets, to go scout turkeys.
Larry loved his church family and was great friends with Pastor Dave Hawley from the time Christian Life
Church was held at the parsonage. And Pastor Marcia was always there to give Larry a kind word and
loving support.
“Skipper” as Pastor Justin Reese used to call him not only enjoyed hunting and fishing but he also
enjoyed teaching others the things he loved. He especially enjoyed taking church members out fishing
and organized both a men’s fishing day and a kids fishing day. Pastor Sara was always on board to fill
coolers with snacks for these fishing trips and when she could she enjoyed Larry lessons on fishing,
While Larry enjoyed outdoor activities he was no slouch when it came to indoor games as well. He was
proficient at foosball, table pool and darts. His long arms were a definite advantage in darts.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Herbert and Muriel (Thompson) Twist; and brother; Herbert Twist Jr.
Larry leaves behind his loving wife, her children and grandchildren, his son and grandson, his daughter-
in-law and her two sons and his brother, his niece Fallon (Peter) Ready. And many more loving aunts,
uncles and cousins. And we can’t forget his “adopted” fur baby Duchess.
His family is thankful, grateful and blessed for all the support from our Christian Life Church family, there
has been so much help, love and prayer in so many areas from so many people that they really are too
numerous to mention here. Special thanks to the Master Tasker Carol Hayes and her husband Roger.
We invite you to Christian Life Church 4521 County Road F Elkhorn Wisconsin on Wednesday Nov 15
2023 to visit with and reminisce with family and friends.
We know that weekday funerals can be tough to negotiate and we would have had the service on the
18th but I’m sure we can all hear Larry saying “Who has a funeral on opening day!”
Visitation is 10 to 12, funeral service will be at 12 with a light luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers please send ammo and or bait and lures...
