Michael Mahoney Obituary

 

Michael John Mahoney 78 of Twin Lakes, WI died on December 20, 2018.  He was born in Cook County, Chicago, IL on June 10, 1940.  He was the eldest son of Jane P (Yellow Owl) (Mullin) and Edward F. Mahoney.  He was united in marriage to Mary Mahoney who preceded him in death.  He was currently engaged to Susan Elizabeth Washack, 58 of Paddock Lake, WI.  Mike was a past Village of Twin Lakes Trustee.  He also served on the Community Library Board for several years.  Prior to that he was employee of the Community Library as a delivery driver.  He was a retired Fire Captain from the Johnsburg Fire Department in McHenry, IL.  He was honored with a stone memorial bearing his name in the Johnsburg Community Park for his service and dedication to the McHenry County residents.  He served in the United States Army and proudly served his county as a veteran.  He served in the Vietnam War from 1962-1969.  Mike was Special Forces Green Beret from 1967-1969 where he was wounded in the knee by gun fire.  He was awarded Purple Heart for bravery as well as the Silver Star. He was the only survivor to come home from his unit. 

He was a former member of the Powers Lake Sportsman’s Club in Randall, WI.  He served as a Twin Lakes Police officer as well as serving as a past member of the Twin Lakes Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad as an Ambulance Technician.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping in WI.  He shall be missed by Susan Elizabeth Washack, her family, close friends as well as many friends and neighbors.   He was preceded in death by his younger brother Edward.
