Otto Ryl Obituary

Otto A. Ryl, age 100 of Elkhorn, WI, formerly of Villa Park, IL, left this earthly world to enter the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 16, 2022.  He was born May 26, 1922 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Karl and Alvina (Schyplebaum) Ryl. Otto graduated from Lane Tech High School in the city of Chicago. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was stationed in the Marshall Islands where he worked as a machinist. Otto met Georgianna H. Rojik on October 1, 1946 at an all night roller skating party. He asked her for an official date the next day and the rest, as they say, is history. (They celebrated the anniversary of their meeting every year, as well as their wedding anniversary.) They were united in marriage on May 22, 1948 in Chicago, IL. Otto worked for 42 years as a tool and die engineer for General Motors in the Electromotive Division retiring in 1983.  He loved to tell people that he was retired almost as long as he worked! He was a woodworker extraordinaire and made cherished keepsakes for many family members. Otto was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Villa Park, IL.  He enjoyed traveling in their RV, spending winters in Arizona and was a member of the Fox Valley Winnebago Club. Otto remained a voracious reader of many genres until the end of his life.

Otto is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Georgianna, son, Ken (Sue) Ryl of Lake Geneva, WI, four grandchildren: Kendra (Clayton) Hutchinson, Stefanie (Will) Hughes, Kristina and Erik Ryl, five great-grandchildren: CJ and Keagan Hutchinson, Liam and Georgia Hughes and Tommy Ryan and many other family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Thomas (surviving wife, Joyce) Ryl, brother, Arthur (Olga) Ryl and two sisters, Alma (Art) Pencek and Elsie (Don) Idarius.
