Richard Harris Obituary

 

Richard J Harris age 80 of Twin Lakes, WI passed away January 4, 2021.  He was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on May 30, 1940.  The son of the late George and Gladys (Moriarty) Harris.   In his early years he attended Our Lady Lourdes Grammar School and Don Bosco High School.  Richard served in the United States Navy where he attended U.S. Navy Communication School.  He was deployed to U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay Cuba Naval Intelligence Base Security for 18 months.  He also was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Joseph P. Kennedy D. D. 850 Guided Missile guided missile control Petty Officer 18 months.  Honorable Discharged on August 12, 1963.   In 1963 he then went into the family trucking business. 

Richard joined the Carpenters Union 218 where he went to work for the Perini Corp for 10 years.  In 1978 he went to work for the Town of Brookline as a Carpenter where he retired from in 1991.  In 1982 he formed the Brookside Neighborhood Assoc. Jamaica Plain, and was elected by his peers as President of the Brookside Neighborhood Assoc.  In 1984 he was elected to the Neighborhood Development Corp board of directors Jamaica Plain.   1987 was selected by Mayor Ray Flynn to form the first Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council where he served for 2 years.  1986 served on A.P.A.C. board.  1989 served on John F. Kennedy memorial statue committee.  1991 selected by Mayor Ray Flynn for the Franklyn Fuhd Comm.  1992 selected again by his peers as President Brookside Neighborhood Assoc for the sixth time in ten years. 

He was a member of the Knight of Columbus of Boston, MA.  Member of the Moose Lodge of Marco Island, FL. 

Survived by his beloved friend Gayle Stoller.  Father of Richard (Christina) Harris Jr. Grandfather to Ethan Harris.    Further survived by Jim (Kari) Stoller, Ken (Robin) Stoller and Bryan Stoller.  Brother to the late Albert and George Harris.  Survived by numerous Nieces and Nephews.  

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 9, 2021 at 12:30 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory 620 Legion Dr.  Twin Lakes, WI. 53181.   Visitation will be held from 10:30 until time of service at the funeral home.   Memorials in his name may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital or Ronald McDonald House of Milwaukee.   Online condolences Haaselockwoodfhs.com.   The Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory of Twin Lakes, WI. is assisting the family.
