Steven Hubbard Obituary

Steven B. Hubbard, 72 of Elkhorn, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at his home. He was born July 8, 1950, the son of the late Gail and Annyce Stoflet Hubbard.  Steve graduated from Elkhorn Area High School.  He served in the United States Army.   Steve was united in marriage to Denise S. Winter on September 11, 2010 in Williams Bay, WI.

Steve was a gifted musician and guitarist throughout his life.  He enjoyed singing and composing music.  Steve enjoyed playing with many local artists, thankful for all those musical experiences they shared.  His recent favorite was his duo with his wife, Denise called Briarwood Rose.  They enjoyed playing at church, and other events and venues over the years.   Steve enjoyed entertaining and hosting an annual open jam party at their home.  In addition to being a guitarist, Steve loved to collect and repair guitars.  He was trained as a luthier which is the art of guitar repair and construction.

Steve had been a proud member of Narcotics Anonymous for over 20 years and had many opportunities to share stories of his journey to help others. His Narcotics Anonymous family was extremely important to him and was instrumental in his finding purpose in his life.  “I love you, brother” or, just “I love you” was a phrase commonly said by Steve when he ended a conversation with any member of his NA family.

Steve enjoyed traveling around the world with Denise, especially to Egypt and China.  Part of the travel experience included collecting Hard Rock pins which resulted in quite an extensive collection. They went on annual trips to Mexico and the Caribbean to celebrate Denise’s January birthday, Cinco de Mayo, or whatever holiday fit the call to travel.  His guitar was most always taken along so he and Denise could sing on the balconies of their hotel rooms and serenade a very appreciative hotel staff.  (The guitar never made it to China or Egypt but was there in spirit).

Steve loved nature where he would spend his time gardening or bird watching. Every year he worked diligently on his vegetable garden, making sure nothing went to waste.  But his pride was working on his roses.  If a rose bush died over the winter, it was quickly replaced when the season allowed.  His love for roses was evident early on in his relationship with Denise, when he presented a red rose from his garden to her on their first date.

Other notable things about Steve included his enjoyment in woodworking and studying the art behind it. Steve was known for his large hat collection and to start every day with his mocha cappuccinos.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Steve is survived by his wife, Denise Hubbard, three stepsons; Tim (Wendy) O’Brien, Eron (Dawn) O’Brien and Jamie O’Brien, two stepdaughters: Amy Rozajewski and Robin Rozajewski, five grandchildren: Dylan O’Brien, Sean (Laura) O’Brien, Christopher O’Brien, Michael O’Brien, and Maggie Voss, two brothers: Chuck (Colleen) Hubbard and Jeff (Kathy) Hubbard, a niece and nephews, many extended family members and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Daniel Hubbard, daughter-in-law, Zonia O’Brien and grandson, Justin Regalia.
