Joan Marilyn (Loughead) Duerst

Elkhorn: Joan M. Duerst; 86 of West Street Elkhorn, WI died Saturday November 28, 2015 at Lakeland Health Care Center Elkhorn, WI.  Joan was born September 28, 1929 in Colby, WI the daughter of the late John H. and Olive B. (Bryant) Loughead.  She graduated from Janesville High School with the Class of 1947.  On April 15, 1950 she was united in marriage to Arthur E. Duerst.    Joan was the General Leader of the LaGrange 4-H for many years, long time member of the Eastern Star and 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  Joan and Art were some of the ones who were involved with the implementation of the Fur and Feather Sale at the Walworth County Fair. Later in Joan’s retirement years she was an interpreter at Old World Wisconsin.  She was a devoted homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.  She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Art, Four children; Gary (Ann) Duerst of Monona, WI, Kristine (Mike) Brown of Colby, WI, John (Pam) Duerst of Whitewater, WI and Sue (Bob) Earle of Elkhorn, WI, Eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law; Gerald Markham of Whitewater, WI and Tony Videka of Chicago, IL and by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.  Joan was preceded in death by a son, Brian and by five sisters.  Funeral services with Eastern Star rites will be held 11:00 AM Thursday December 3, 2015 at United Church of Christ-Congregational Church 123 E. Washington Delavan, WI with Rev. Laura McLeod and Rev. Becky Boggs officiating.  Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until time of service and will continue during the luncheon following the services.  Private family committal service will be held 3:00 PM at Hillside Cemetery Whitewater, WI.  Memorials may be made in Joan’s name to the church.  On-line guestbook is at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.  The Duerst family was assisted by Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Homes and Crematory of Elkhorn, WI.
