Nellie "Irene" Borre

Nellie I. “Irene” Borre, age 96, a lifelong resident of Richmond, IL area passed away Saturday morning May 13, 2017 at the Lakeland Health Care Center in Elkhorn, WI surrounded by her family.

The former Nellie Irene Pierce was born on December 30, 1920 in Hebron, IL, the daughter of the late Lyle M. and Mary E. Coquillette Pierce.  On January 4, 1942 in Richmond, IL, Irene was united in marriage to Philip A. Borre.  Philip preceded her in death on June 8, 1973.

Irene graduated from Richmond High School in 1938 as Valadictorian.  She formerly worked as a pharmacy assistant for Toppen Drug Store.  Irene and Philip owned and operated Borre’s Supermarket in Richmond for 26 years where she did the accounting.   She also did accounting for the Richmond Gazette. She was a member of the Community Church of Richmond since 1937.

Irene was a member of the International Questers where she served as President., the McHenry County Historical Society, President of the Women’s Fellowship at the Church, the Cabinet of the Church and Historian of the Church and wrote the history of Community Church.  She was also on the board of the Colemar Cemetery Assoc., membership chairman for the McHenry County Historical Museum, on the board of McHenry County Historical Society, and collector of antiques.  She was also a member of the National Tea Leaf Club.

In 1981 she was named Rotary Person of the Year.  In 1995, she received a certificate from the Village of Richmond for work she did on the Memorial Committee for Historical Sites in Richmond.

Irene is survived by: 3 children, Kurtis (Donna) of LaCrosse, WI, Kristen (James Wilson) Borre of Sycamore, IL and MaryEllen (John) Kanthack of Genoa City, WI; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.                 

The Borre Family will receive friends from 4:00PM until 8:00PM Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Haase-Lockwood & Assoc. Funeral Home, 113 Freeman St. Genoa City, WI.  Private Family interment will be on Saturday June 24, 2017 in Richmond Cemetery.  A Memorial Services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday June 24, 2017 at the Community Church 5714 Broadway St. Richmond, IL.  Memorial remembrances may be made to the Community Church of Richmond, 5714 Broadway St. Richmond IL. 60071 or the McHenry County Historical Society, 642 Main St. Union, IL 60180.  For online guestbook: haaselockwoodfhs.com.  The Haase-Lockwood & Assoc.
