Osa M. Herreid

March 31, 1940 ~ December 28, 2016 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Osa M. Herreid, age 76, of Trevor, WI, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

The former Osa M. Lancour was born on March 31, 1940 in Chippewa Falls, WI, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Theresa Brunner Lancour.  On April 8, 1961, Osa was united in marriage to Edwin M. Herreid.  They formerly lived in Kenosha, WI before moving to Trevor in 1963.

Osa formerly worked at the Trevor Post Office as a mail carrier.  She was known by everyone on “her route”.  She always went above and beyond her duties, checking on her elderly customers and repairing mail boxes for people that could not afford or physically could not repair and there was never a charge.  At Christmas time, she would print and address many, many “Letters from Santa” for all her young customers.  After retiring the Post Office, Osa took horticultural classes at Gateway.  She made many flower arrangements for weddings, parties, homecoming dances or to brighten someone’s day.  She grew the flowers for her arrangements.  Along with her passion for flowers, she became a Superintendent at the Kenosha County Fair Flower display.

Osa was involved in many areas of Salem Township.  In the winter busy season at the Post Office, Osa also worked every evening at the Wilmot Ski Hills, where she managed the cafeteria.  In the early 1970’s, she was part of a group that resurrected Cub Scout Pack 353.  After her boys were done, she stayed on as the committee chair for the Pack another 10 years.

When Salem Township Rescue Squad was formed, she formed the Ladies Auxiliary.  The ladies spent many hours fundraising to keep the squad going.  She spent many hours selling Bingo cards and raffles and helping street dances.

The last 10 years, she has been a volunteer with the Southeast Wisconsin Antique Power and Collectible Society.  She was the chair of the sweet corn booth to raise funds for the club.  In between all these projects over the years, she has volunteered at many community events including: Holy Name Church chicken barbecues, Salem Pumpkin Days, Trevor Fire Dept. street dances, Marine Corp League Christmas present wrapping, Boy Scout Pancake Breakfasts and local craft fairs.  The world could use more people like Osa.

Osa is survived by:  Her husband, Edwin; 4 sons, Edwin (Lisa) Herreid, Jr of Trevor, WI, John (Theresa) Herreid of Waupaca, WI, William (Dana Hangebrauck) Herreid of Trevor, WI and Randy (Pam) Herreid of Twin Lakes, WI; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Tom (MaryAnn) Lancour of Seymour, WI; 2 sisters, Verona “Cook” Haessly of Kaukauna, WI and Mary Ann Nordstrom of Arizona.  Osa is also survived by: brothers in law, Tom (Clarice) Herreid of Ferryville, WI and Milford (Joan) Herreid of Neenah, WI and sister in law, Olivia Kenefick of Elk Mound, WI.

Osa was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters: Gene Lancour, Dick Lancour, Ron Lancour, Rita Gosse, Della Anholzer and Alice Ferrari and a brother in law, John Nordstrom; sister in law, Ann Breidenstein and brothers in law, Blain Breidenstein and Bob Kenefick.
