Gerald W. Sawtelle Sr.

Gerald W. Sawtelle Sr., age 90 of Betzer Road, Delavan, WI, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at his home in Delavan. He was born November 5, 1926 in Conneaut Ohio the son of the late George and Florence H. (Wright) Sawtelle.  He attended Notre Dame University and played Baritone in the band, he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Arkansas with a tour of duty that took him to Iwo Jima.  He was united in marriage to Betty Koehler on March 12, 1948, in Plano, IL. Betty preceded him in death on February 21, 2014. Gerald farmed his entire life, he operated Lakelawn Farm in Delavan for over 25 years, worked at the Walworth County Farm for over 10 years and at Millard Feed Mill for 5 years before retiring. He was a member of the Millard Community Covenant Church, former Toastmaster, and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Cooksville, WI. He enjoyed being a participant and watching tractor pulling. He was an avid fan of football especially the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. Gerald was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Gerald will be deeply missed by his six children: Gerald (Bonnie) Sawtelle of Janesville, WI, Georgia (Mark) Ramthun of Elkhorn, WI, Geffrey (Debra) Sawtelle of Neshkoro, WI, Gregory (Brenda) Sawtelle of Delavan, WI, Grayling Sawtelle of Delavan, and Gretchen (Ben) Smith of West Bend, WI; special daughter-in-law, Karbet Sawtelle of Avalon, WI; six grandchildren: Gerry III Sawtelle, Jacob Sawtelle, Karla Sawtelle, Jennifer (Brian) Nabb, Stacey (Rias) Vohra and Heather (Tyler) Gohlke; 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, sister, Martha (Albert) Carr of Aurora, OH, brother, Richard (Sharon) Sawtelle of Sangor, CA and by a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Betty Jane Sawtelle and two brothers; Wayne and Gary Sawtelle.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at MILLARD COMMUNITY COVENANT CHURCH, N6713 County Road O, Elkhorn, WI, with Rev. Lyle Heinitz officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00PM on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory, 730 N Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI and at Church on Tuesday from 10:00AM until service time. Graveside services with Military Honors will be 2:30PM on Tuesday at Spring Grove Cemetery Delavan, WI.
