I never would have imagined myself working at a nursing home until after graduating from college... but I suppose God works in mysterious ways. I was offered that job for a reason and out of the many amazing individuals I had the opportunity to meet, not one compared to Lee. I came into Holton as a part-time student at gateway in the ECE program, but soon discovered a new passion (RN) after being around my buddy Lee. I'll miss your constant jokes, caring personality, and that big grin you got every time I came into your room to visit you. I'll miss our long talks after I would clock out and come back into your room just to hear all your crazy stories about your childhood memories and listen to you express the love you have for your beloved wife (While bringing you your tea, of course - preferably rose with a shot of milk and honey). Most importantly, I'll miss you. Something about you reminded me so much of my own grandpa and you always told me I reminded you of your granddaughter who is named Lauren as well. I always felt so comfortable and at home during work all because of you. I was definitely beyond blessed to have met such a goofy, gentle soul like you. I will never forget you or your loving sister. I know you are happy you have finally found your bride that you have been missing for so long. Until we meet again, Love you Lee. My thoughts and prayers will forever and wholeheartedly be with Lee and all of his family.

Sincerely,
Lauren

I am very sorry to hear of Lee's passing. I know for certain we never loose the people we love, even in death. They continue to participate in every act thought and decision we make. Their lives and love leave an indelible imprint in our lives and memories. I will always remember him as a generous warm hearted man who always made me feel welcome. My thoughts and Prayers go out to his children and grandchildren.

Lee, we will miss you, and our sympathy to your children and family. Because we lived so far away from each other, we never got to know you as well as we should have. We will treasure the memories that we made when we visited in Iowa and your visits to Colorado and Arizona. You stopped a couple of time in Colorado when you were trucking and stayed with us a few days each of those times. Always wisecracking and keeping us on our toes!

Leroy made me laugh and smile on some of my hardest days. He was truly a great guy, and I will never forget him coming to my grandpas room at Holton and having us spin his Irish button. I know John J is so happy to see you up there, although so many will miss you here. Thinking of the Shilts family and all others affected by this loss. He will be close to your heart always. Rest in peace Leroy!

I loved chatting and laughing with Leroy at Holtan Mamor. I would see him scooting down the hall in his wheelchair with his funny tees and pins and knew he was gonna fill me in on all the goings on there. He loved his wife and family so much and it was so great to find out my son and his grandson were such good friends! Godspeed Leroy! I didn't know you long but you left quite an impression.
