Eleanor M. Thoms, 87, of Clover St., Elkhorn, WI, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. She was born January 30, 1930 in Barrington, IL to the late Adolf and Frieda Sievers. Eleanor graduated from Palatine, IL High School in 1948 and then worked as a stenographer for Public Service Co. in Chicago until her marriage to Roy F. Thoms on June 25, 1949. They moved to Elkhorn in 1950. Eleanor was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was very active in all the women’s activities, especially as a member and leader of the Mary Circle. She was also a past president of the LCW. Eleanor was a member of the Elkhorn Women’s Club for 55 years, where she served as an officer and co-chairman of the Bridge Marathon for many years. She worked at the courthouse in the extension office for 7 years when she resigned to help her husband in the insurance business. Eleanor was a member of Evergreen Golf Course and Ladies League. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Food Pantry and Blood mobile. Eleanor loved to play bridge, board games, entertain and was an avid reader. She loved music and dancing. Roy and Eleanor were known for being the first couple on the dance floor and the last to leave the dance floor. Eleanor, Nona Grunseth and Marilyn Fischer had a coffee clutch that met every Wednesday morning for over 60 years. Eleanor had so much love and pride for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn (Tom) Mutch of Penfield, NY and Lori (Joseph) McCormick of Harvard, IL, daughter-in-law, Marti Menz of Morgan Hill, CA, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and sister, Marion Allen. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Thoms, son, David R. Thoms and brother, Ray Sievers.
Funeral services will be 11:00AM on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 104 S. Broad St. Elkhorn, WI with Pastor Tom DeGroot officiating. Visitation will be 9:00AM until service time on Saturday. Interment will follow services at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Flowers are welcomed, but in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. John’s Lutheran Church, Aurora VNA Hospice or Holton Manor. Online guest book at www.haaselockwoodfhs.com.
